Overview

Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw was founded durring the early 14th century in fall of the year 1304, by Emerthelil. The establishment of Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw was built using the conventions of Gnoll durring the early 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw is buildings are located arround a single broad cobblestone mainstreet which forms a clockwise spiral to give the city a over all circular shape. The city is the proud owner of a thick set of fortified walls fashioned from querried stone blocks. While not up to snuff for a fort or castle wall, the city's walls are naturaly much larger than those of forts or castles. Therefore, the construction such a wall is most expencive. Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw's buget focused wall would serve its community well in battle in spite of looking unimpressive compared to castles and fortresses. Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw's top tier civilian fortifications has sufferd soem light damage, reducing its function a little in some spots, but could almsot certainly preform as expected... Though some of the worse spots could lead to the loss of defenders lives if attackers identified the weaknesses ahead of time.

A look around Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw gives you an uneasy feeling. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring just long enough for it to be uncomfortable. A second look around Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw makes it abundantly clear the city suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had.

Traditional, conservative leanings were void in this era, with most scholars of architecture agreeing it was a time of “anything goes.”.

Points of Interest

Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw was unknowingly built atop something unstable, and now that substrate is crumbling. It may be swampy ground or a decaying coastline, or it could be an ancient buried city that’s now giving way. In the case of some antique habitation, the denizens that once lived there might be boiling upward as their home is collapsing, or new opportunities may be revealed even as the community’s present structure is ruined.

Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw's roads were poorly made when first laid. Rather than repairing them correctly, a series of new roads was laid atop the old, leading to the streets of modern Slæ̈rn Dedi-kánw suffering from potholes, cracking, and even sinkholes. The locals often repair the road by putting down wooden decking.
